Calling Card 预付卡/ Phone Card 电话卡
Calling cards are inexpensive and offer an easy and cheap way to call back to your home country. Some of the prepaid cards offer cheaper calling rates for international calls to certain countries, therefore, it's good that you can ask the counter staff which prepaid card has better rates for calling back to your home country.

Calling cards can be easily purchased at convenience stores like 7/11 which you can find almost on every street.


GSM SIM Card / GSM Auto-roaming
Taiwan mobile phone network works on GSM 900MHz / 1800MHz, therefore, if your mobile phone supports GSM 900MHz / 1800MHz networks, you will be able to use the mobile phone in Taiwan. However, do remember to activate the overseas roaming service back at your home country before embarking on the trip to Taiwan, and also check on the roaming rates from your mobile service provider.

Alternatively, you may want to consider buying a GSM SIM card from a convenience store or cellular phone shop - which is a cheaper option and provides you with a contactable mobile number. These SIM cards are easily available from convenience stores such as 7-11 and are usually activated within 24 hours.

Public Phones
In Taiwan, you can find 2 types of public phones; the coin phone, and the card phone. As the name implies, coin phones accept coins and card phones accept cards. Coin phones accepts coins in denominations of NT$1, NT$5 & NT$10.

You do not need to dial the area code when making local calls but for overseas calls, you'll need to dial the area code prior to the actual phone number.

Dial Taiwan's international access code, 002, followed by the country code of the country and the area code of the party that you are calling and followed by the actual phone number.
